Sabbatical / Sabbatique

Dear readers,

It seems someone at Esxence is going around saying I’ve quit the blog. They should’ve checked with me first, because I’m not, and I haven’t told anyone any such thing. I’ve just taken some time off because of a) work (as in : too much of it); b) a benign but tiring health issue, now resolved ; c) the need to reconnect with what made me write about perfume in the first place : the pleasure of wearing it, as opposed to trying to come up with clever things to say about it at least once a week.

So, definitely not quitting, just taking a sabbatical. I’ll be around for the April 29th Top 10 of Spring for sure !

Cher lecteurs,

    1. Thank you Asali! Currently I'm flitting between Eau de Néroli Doré (Hermès) and White Song (Dear Rose)...

  2. I, too, hope you are enjoying your sabbatical. It's always a good thing to get away for a bit, whatever the reason.

I do miss reading you, however. I re-read The Perfume Lover recently just to get my fix!

    1. Thank you too, Furriner. It *is* enjoyable to just wear perfume for pleasure, though I haven't stopped testing and enjoying minor epiphanies... I'm also working on a couple of perfume-related, though not online projects.

  3. Whilst I miss your intelligent and thought provoking pieces, blogging is I assume still a voluntary activity? Professional immersion in something that is a passion can often produce periods of slight burn out without the overlay of a health issue. A sabbatical is the best way to service the engine and regain perspective and let the passion regenerate. Looking forward to your tips for spring!

    1. That's a very perceptive way of putting it, Maureen. And yes, my blogging is unpaid, something I do on my time off, so unfortunately it must be set aside when I have deadlines. I've also been teaching a lot more, and that is an exhausting job, as anyone who's ever done it knows...

  7. This is reassuring, dear Denyse. I, too, have missed your voice, but perfectly understand that your blog must reflect the pleasure you find in perfume and never become a burdensome duty. Write when you are moved to do so; your readers will be waiting!

  9. Denyse, it's as they tell us on an airplane: put on your own oxygen mask before attempting to help someone else. I do appreciate your seasonal lists, which give me plenty to search for in the interim. Wishing you all the best, nozknoz

  10. I do hope there's plenty of oxygen in the cabin yet... ;-) I do hope to resume sometime soon at a slow, but more regular pace!
