Finalists for the Parfums 2011 awards of the Fragrance Foundation France

The Fragrance Foundation France has just announced the finalists for the seven awards Les Parfums 2011 (i.e. the French Fifi awards) given out by the public, who will vote on the internet. The winners will be announced on May 5th 2011.

In addition, two awards will be given out to perfumes available in less than 100 points of sale in France (i.e. niche and exclusive lines), the Perfumers’ Award and the Specialists’ Award, where yours truly sits on the jury alongside the French-language bloggers Ambre Gris, Poivre Bleu and Olfactorum, beauty editors and evaluators.
The board of the Fragrance Foundation will also give out a special award.

Up for public vote (French internet users only) on www.fragrancefoundation.fr or www.marionnaud.fr...

The long list hasn’t been given out yet for the Specialists’ Award. I already have a few contenders in mind…

Since the vote is only open to people with French I.P. addresses, here's the moment to have your say: any favorites?

And what niche or exclusive 2010 launches would you love to see on the short list for the Perfumers' and Specialists' awards?

  1. Wow, so many of these seem so forgettable...

    My votes would me:

    Best Feminine Fragrance
Balenciaga Paris is probably the least annoying.

    Best Masculine Fragrance
I wouldn't use any of them but perhaps Voyage d’Hermès

Best Bottle Design for a Feminine Fragrance
    Balenciaga Paris, definitely

Best Bottle Design for a Masculine Fragrance
Voyage d’Hermès is original, at least.

I haven't seen the advertising campaigns. For the other awards, I'd certainly hope for Arsene Lupin Dandy to show up, just to encourage the big houses to release good stuff once in a while. And perhaps L'Heure Fougueuse deserves some attention.

  2. Fernando, I'm pretty sure Arsène Lupin Dandy and L'Heure Fougueuse will make the long list, and I'd bet on the latter for the short list. Only problem is Mathilde Laurent already won the Perfumers' and Specialists' awards last year for La Treizième Heure. It'll probably be a factor in the vote.

  3. I'd like to see Vamp a' NY and Traversee du Bosphore for the special awards. They are both unique, memorable, innovative, and eminently wearable. Not an easy combo to pull off!

  4. Marla, they'd both make it on my short list, that's for sure.

  5. Hmm... this is a tough one. I'm not fond of any of the perfumes on the mainstream list, except perhaps the Hermes.

And as for niche... would Absolue Pour Le Soir be eligible? And how about Dior's Leather Oud?

  6. Persolaise, both would definitely be eligible since they came out in 2010. But don't expect any of the Lutens, Serge Lutens doesn't want to participate.

  7. Monsieur Lutens doesn't want to play? That's fair enough. It's a pretty admirable stance, in some ways.

I'm guessing Monsieur Malle doesn't feel the same way, so I would've thought Portrait Of A Lady deserves consideration.

  8. Persolaise, I'm sure PoaL will get some and it's quite likely that it'll make the pre-selection at the very least.

  9. I was going to suggest Bas de Soie (it was a 2010 release, yes?) until I saw that M. Lutens declines to participate.

I agree with Marla's take on Vamp a New-york, however. Haven't yet tried Traversee or Portrait. . .

  10. Oops, I nearly fell asleep while reading the mainstream fragrance nominees. :-)

Traversée du Bosphore is certainly on my list, as is Portrait of a Lady.

I can certainly imagine Voyage d'Hermès winning the masculine bottle design category.

  11. Gretchen, I can see how he'd want to place himself above the fray. I'd say the Vamp could well make an excellent showing in the short-list.

  12. Jarvis, I hope Voyage d'Hermès will win that at least, but with the internet popular vote... who knows? That said, the French public is pretty worked up about the Hermès/LVMH saga and rooting for the "underdog", such as it is: they feel Hermès is part of the French heritage, so that might influence the vote.
