Top 25... for now: My Pick

I’ve had a virus all week-end that’s screwed up my nose, my desktop monitor died on me, leaving me without my archives, and I have an essay to write on Jean-Claude Ellena for the September issue a French art review…
Forgive me, then, if I go all lazy on you and take a page from my pals Patty and March at the Perfume Posse, and tell you my top 25 feminine fragrances of the moment – which will, at least, give you an idea of where my taste is at right now. I’ve only listed currently available fragrances, though in many cases, when I have a well-preserved version, I’d rather go with the vintage.
You’ll find that some of these have already been reviewed here : stay tuned for the others, and if you haven’t already written your list up for the Posse, I’d be delighted to find out your favourites.

  4. D.G., out of that list, there's only 5 I don't own! I wore the Carons like crazy from the mid-80s to the early 90s, pre-SL, but somehow they're too associated to that period for me to go back to wearing them. I'll be doing a vintage-discontinued list at some point. Heartbreaking!

  5. Luca Turin claims Nombre Noir is the perfume that got him into perfume, well for me it was En Avion. I cannot wear the current Carons, hate what Fraysse has done with them, I only wear them rarely now and only the vintage ones, very old or more recent from the 90's. Lutens was my second perfume revelation in the mid-90's with Fleurs d 'Oranger.
Oh yes please, treat us all with a vintage-discontinued list asap, I so want this! I won Le Galion Sortilege parfum NIB on ebay this evening for hardly any money at all. It 's one of my favorite aldehydes with No 5 and Le Dix.

  6. Le Galion is interesting, it was Paul Vacher's brand (he co-authored Miss Dior with Jean Carles and did Diorling). The vintage list is easy (and heartbreaking) to work on: there are so many I love!

  7. Hi,

I like your list a lot and I own several of them.

By the way, The painting is an allegory by Agnolo Bronzino. Not the famous portrait of Gabrielle d'Estrées.

  8. Thanks, Frédéric, I wrote the reference down too quickly (I had downloaded several pictures). I love Bronzino -- there are many Mannerist paintings at the Louvre.
