Sneak preview of the new Serge Lutens: L'Eau Froide (Icy Incense)

Two years after L’Eau Serge Lutens, Serge Lutens launches the second offering in what he calls an “orphan” series, L’Eau Froide (“Cold Water”), based on the fresh, mineral effects of Somalia incense resin (as opposed to burnt incense) anchored to the skin with four different types of musk.
The scent will be available early next year. I’ll review it closer to launch time. Above you’ll see the key words.

And this, from Serge Lutens:  “Apart from what leads my choice where it must go, I can betray everything and above all, myself.”

  1. This sounds incredibly appealing to me, but as soon as the word "incense" comes into play, I'm a goner. I still must get around to sampling De Profundis!

  2. Carrie, at least L'Eau Froide will be more widely available, though they couldn't be more different.

  3. I'd actually love to try Serge's take on "cold incense". The only perfumes I can think of in this category are YSL's discontinued, recently-re-released Nu, and Bond's Silvery Factory. Have you tried it? How does it compare to these 2?

  4. That's "Silver Factory", though I kinda like "Silvery Factory" better! ;-)

  5. Marla, I've only skin-tested L'Eau Froide once so can't comment yet. Bond isn't available in Paris and so over-abundant I can't be bothered to catch up when I travel. Nu I don't remember well -- apparently the re-issue is quite different.
But I think people who were put off by L'Eau Serge Lutens might find L'Eau Froide more appealing.

  6. seems like everybody and their mother are issuing incense-musk at the moment. And there I was thinking I had an original idea

  7. I was one of the few people who didn't think the first L'Eau was in breach with SL tradition. I am definitely looking forward to this!!! Thanks for the preview!

  8. Can you tell us from your one-time testing whether it rises to the level one expects from a SL? Original L'Eau Serge Lutens minus the Lutens name is rather unremarkable. Thanks.

  9. Aha,if I can help with a decant of the NU by YSL, I've got it in EDP, just drop me an e-mail and i'll gladly send it over

Instead of speculating about whether the L'eau Froide will be good or not I'll simply give it a try next year.

Thanks for the warning, euuh, I mean review ofcourse.

  10. Does this mean that De Profundis will not be the final Lutens perfume as Octavian had suggested?

  11. Ariane, I got the sense from Octavian's review of DP that he was speaking metaphorically, a metaphoric death and eulogy for the house of SL. Think he's also declared Chanel dead even though they are obviously churning out new products.

  12. Kostas, I must be slightly out of the loop. I can't really think of many examples...

  13. Memory of Scent, I can't say I was the greatest fan of L'Eau Serge Lutens though I've seen at the shop that it does have its public. This one I like better.

  14. Anonymous, can't say I agree with about the name: I think L'Eau Froide (The Cold Water) is a great find! As for my impressions, sincerely I'd rather wait until I write a proper review...

  16. Ariane, Octavian wrote from a metaphorical point of view. His "obituary" wasn't to be interpreted literally!
