a period of creativity of sharing, of freedom, and indeed of difference.”

In working with Christine Nagel, his wish is to begin a process of transmission of the philosophy and creativity of Hermès Parfums, thereby establishing the way for a happy succession when the time comes.

“The arrival of Jean-Claude Ellena in 2004 marked the start of a new journey for Hermès. Ten years later, we are enriching our story with a new and wonderful partnership. Together with Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Hermès’ Artistic Director, we strongly believe that Christine Nagel will use her personality and talent to write a new chapter of the history of perfumery at Hermès.”

  2. From what I've understood, there's no set date for the transition. Might be a couple of years yet.

  3. They seem both consistent and complementary to me. I hope she might do something before he leaves, which I'm in no hurry to see him do. Of course, I'm very much looking forward to what she will do with this level of resources and creative opportunity. Breaking out the Ambre Soie to celebrate! nozknoz

  4. Nozknoz, I'm in no hurry to see JCE leave either -- I've really loved two of his latest, Eau de Narcisse Bleu and Bel Ami Vétiver. He's a tough act to follow, both because of his distinctive style and because he's also the sole major perfumer to be a writer, and a "theorist" of his own approach. Nagel is very gifted, very charming, and loves interacting with journalists, but her discourse isn't as elaborate. She communicates more on an emotional than intellectual level.

  5. TOTALLY exciting news. Is he leaving? That's not what I gather. I thought they would be working together.
It will be sad for Hermes if JCE leaves but either way I am excited, this could be magical. Fingers crossed.

  6. Hey Portia! No, he's not leaving. They says they're preparing a smooth transition, which makes sense. So they'll be working together for some time.
