HERMÈS EXTENDS A WARM WELCOME TO CHRISTINE NAGEL,WHO WILL WORK ALONGSIDE JEAN-CLAUDE ELLENA
Hermès is delighted to
announce the arrival from March 2014 of Christine Nagel, perfumer, to work
alongside Jean-Claude Ellena.
“For me, Christine
Nagel was the obvious choice. This is just the start of a new adventure;
a period of
creativity of sharing, of freedom, and indeed of difference.”
Jean-Claude Ellena,
in-house perfumer at Hermès.
Previously, Christine
Nagel was Vice President of Fine Fragrance creation at Mane. For Hermès
Parfums, she will develop new projects alongside Jean-Claude Ellena, who will
continue in his role of creating and directing the olfactory style of Hermès.
In working with
Christine Nagel, his wish is to begin a process of transmission of the
philosophy and creativity of Hermès Parfums, thereby establishing the way for a
happy succession when the time comes.
“The arrival of
Jean-Claude Ellena in 2004 marked the start of a new journey for Hermès. Ten
years later, we are enriching our story with a new and wonderful partnership. Together
with Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Hermès’ Artistic Director, we strongly believe that Christine
Nagel will use her personality and talent to write a new chapter of the history
of perfumery at Hermès.”
Catherine
Fulconis, Chief Executive Officer, Hermès Parfums.
Wow! News of the week. How long I wonder before we smell a 'fume.
RépondreSupprimerFrom what I've understood, there's no set date for the transition. Might be a couple of years yet.
RépondreSupprimerThey seem both consistent and complementary to me. I hope she might do something before he leaves, which I'm in no hurry to see him do. Of course, I'm very much looking forward to what she will do with this level of resources and creative opportunity. Breaking out the Ambre Soie to celebrate! nozknoz
RépondreSupprimerNozknoz, I'm in no hurry to see JCE leave either -- I've really loved two of his latest, Eau de Narcisse Bleu and Bel Ami Vétiver. He's a tough act to follow, both because of his distinctive style and because he's also the sole major perfumer to be a writer, and a "theorist" of his own approach. Nagel is very gifted, very charming, and loves interacting with journalists, but her discourse isn't as elaborate. She communicates more on an emotional than intellectual level.
RépondreSupprimerTOTALLY exciting news. Is he leaving? That's not what I gather. I thought they would be working together.
RépondreSupprimerIt will be sad for Hermes if JCE leaves but either way I am excited, this could be magical. Fingers crossed.
Portia xx
Hey Portia! No, he's not leaving. They says they're preparing a smooth transition, which makes sense. So they'll be working together for some time.
RépondreSupprimerNow this is some seriously exciting news!!! I admire much of her work.
RépondreSupprimerHi Aaron. Anything in particular that stands out for you?
